In order to facilitate your stay in Leipzig and arrange for your accommodation we cooperate with the hotel service portal HRS, which has pre-arranged hotel rooms in a number of hotels that are located near the conference venue. All of these hotels offer special rates for congress participants. However, due to the limited number of rooms it is highly recommended to make reservations early. Travel and Directions
How to get to Leipzig
Flughafen Leipzig/Halle (Leipzig/Halle Airport) is a 30 minutes’ drive from the city centre. Deutsche Bahn InterCity and RegionalExpress trains run regularly between the airport station and Hauptbahnhof Leipzig (Leipzig central station). In case there is no direct flight to Leipzig from your city, we recommend you fly to Berlin (about two hours to Leipzig by train), Frankfurt, or Hanover (both about three and a half hours to Leipzig by train). There are regular trains to Leipzig from all three cities. Leipzig/Halle Airport can easily be reached by public transport.
Deutsche Bahn InterCity InterCityExpress trains link Leipzig with almost all European cities. Hauptbahnhof Leipzig (Leipzig central station) – one of the biggest and most beautiful in Germany – is located right in the city centre. Use the travel service by Deutsche Bahn to create your personal timetable.
You can reach Leipzig via the motorways A9 (Berlin-Munich) and A14 (Magdeburg-Dresden). Take the exit Leipzig/West from A9 and follow the highway B181 or take the exit Leipzig/Mitte from A14 and follow the highway B2 to the city centre (Zentrum). See interactive map.
Public transport in Leipzig
Leipzig has a dense public traffic network of trams, trains, and busses. You will not need a car to move around in the city. Get familiar with the Leipzig transport system provided by Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB).
Young Scholars’ Conference
The next young scholars’ meeting takes place on Wednesday, 27 June 2018, during the VAD conference “African Connections“ in Leipzig. The meeting will take place at the Institute of African Studies at Leipzig University. The institute is located at the “Geistewissenschaftliches Zentrum“ (GWZ), Beethovenstraße 15, close to the Federal Administrative Court and opposite to the university library “Albertina“. Take the tram 2, 8, or 9 or the bus 89 to “Neues Rathaus“.
Biennale conference “African Connections”
The conference “African Connections” will take place at the main university campus at Augustusplatz. The main campus is located in the city centre, close to the central station, the opera, and the famous concert hall “Gewandhaus”. Take tram 15, 7, 4, 12, 10, 11, or 8 to the tram station “Augustusplatz”.
